El Vegetariano de la Alcazabilla – Vegetarian in Malaga

El vegetariano de la Alcazabilla – C/ Pozo del Rey 5, 29015 Málaga, Spain

Another vegetarian restaurant review! Yes, I’m making up for lost time by visiting lots of restaurants lately. I first visited this restaurant a couple of years ago while on holiday in Malaga but since moving here I hadn’t had time to go back. It’s located right next to the Roman amphitheatre, the Albeniz cinema (shows films in their original language), and has views of the Alcazaba. And of course, serves great vegetarian food. What more could you ask for? There is a long menu including options for vegans and celiacs. Their prices are a little higher than a lot of in the area but certainly not excessive or prohibitive. The only “negative” for me is that they close relatively early on weeknights, at 10pm which means I have to have dinner earlier than normal but really it’s a minor complaint!

We had a large plate of food each. I ordered mixed croquettes. They gave me four different croquettes (courgette, carrot, spinach and potato with cheese) with three different garnishes (Vegetable rice, grilled vegetables and vegetable omlette). My husband ordered assorted pasties which had four pasties and three different garnishes. The best thing was they gave us different garnishes (except for the rice) so we got to try each others and taste different things. I also had a carrot and apple juice which was delicious and also huge (half a litre). The meal cost us 15 euros each so within reasonable.

Here are the photos;

  1. I think it’s interesting that you are used to eating dinner so late! Almost everything (except for disgusting fast food) is closed by 10pm here in the US. Spaniards are night owls!

    This restaurant looks delicious though. My husband traveled to Seville and said vegetarian options were hard to come by. Your knowledge would have been handy!

      Thanks for commenting. Seville is more difficult than Malaga because Malaga is more international than Seville. (I lived in Seville for 12 years so I know this REALLY well), although the last few times I’ve been back I’ve noticed that things are getting batter for us veggies!
